Deadside is a hardcore open-world multiplayer shooter with survival elements developed and published by Bad Pixel. Thankfully these days seem to be behind us, and with the help of Demagic Games, Bad Pixel has laid out an impressive roadmap for , which includes not only technical and quality of life improvements but substantial content updates, including a long-awaited vehicle system and comprehensive weapon system overhaul.

Deadside is not dead, but the vast majority of its nearly servers are, with the player base congregating around a handful of official and unofficial servers. As of , when the subject was last addressed, the developers revealed that while they are not opposed to porting Deadside to console, they have not given it much thought and certainly have no intention of doing so while Deadside is still in early access on PC.

The Deadside community is pretty decent for the genre; when playing on multiple servers, I was impressed by the community spirit and activity of the chat channels; while there was plenty of toxicity to be found on more active servers, there was also a lot of friendly chat and a willingness to trade and help others with PvE events. Perhaps the relatively small player base has helped foster a less toxic community, or the abundance of loot and ease of acquisition has created a less competitive environment; either way, Deadside has one of the most inviting and least hostile survival game communities in and serves as a great gateway for those new to the genre but have an interest in playing a PvP focused survival game.

No, Deadside allows for a total of 7 male faces and a single body type, with the vast majority of facial options being a variation of the base white male model. In short, if you are not white, male and have short hair, you are out of luck when it comes to customization.

Deadside does not have official controller support at this time; however, third-party software may be used to achieve partial controller support. Deadside is one of the few survival games to offer players safe zones, ensuring that new players have a way to store some of their gear and weapons safely away from veteran players who seek to steal them. In addition, safe zones allow players to purchase items from vendors and trade with other players in a safe environment. Deadside is a decent game, but not one I would personally choose to play over DayZ or any other established survival game, the genre is based around risk-reward, and frankly, there is not enough risk in Deadside to make playing the game for more than an hour or so feel rewarding.

Within 5 minutes of spawning, I had looted a pistol, killed three bots, a fully geared player, and found myself flush with cash, top-end gear, two modified special weapons and enough ammo to conduct a small war.

As someone who is only moderately skilled at pvp in survival games, I was disappointed that I could not find anyone who provided much of a challenge, and most battles resulted in the other player dying before they could land more than a glancing blow. MISSIONS It’s a vast open world and in order to avoid getting lost and to keep themselves busy, players can use the map to see where armed bandits are raiding, areas being cleared by security forces loyal to the ex-government, or cannibals settling in abandoned villages. Anyone can take part in mass combat. It will not be an event with a limited number of players, anyone who wishes can go to the mission sector and affect the outcome of the battle.

Battles with participation of NPCs and players can continue for hours and the reward will go to the one who can seize the prize loot after the mission is completed. Players will have at their disposal about 19 types of firearms and additional equipment sights, flashlights, etc. Maybe swap a story or two about hunting cannibals. Also, there are private lockers for players in Green Zones where they can keep a limited number of things they use for surviving.

Green Zones will be places of trade and communication between players and friendly NPC traders. Prior to the actual release, the production could be tested by players for Early Access on the Steam platform. There is no full-fledged storyline in the game. Instead, the story of the Deadside world and its inhabitants is learned through the appearance of locations, brief conversations with friendly NPCs, and the missions they have commissioned.

During the gameplay, characters belonging to different factions are encountered. They could be security forces still loyal to the former government, groups of cannibals living in small villages, bandits interested in our property, lone walkers or other players. With the latter, we either clash or work together and travel the world together.
